We believe childhood should be full of connection, curiosity, and hands-on play. While technology can be a powerful tool, we believe kids grow best through real-life experiences and time with people who care about them. The longer we wait to introduce personal devices and social media, the more space we give our children to thrive — emotionally, socially, and developmentally.
Our schools should be places where learning and community come first, not environments shaped by the interests of tech companies. Teachers deserve the tools, time, and support to focus on teaching, and students deserve classrooms where their attention is protected from unnecessary digital distractions.
To make this vision possible, we’re guided by four key principles:
Strength in Numbers: We know how hard it is to go against the grain, especially when it comes to tech and kids. That’s why we’re creating a voluntary, local pledge to delay smartphones until high school and social media until age 16. By building a shared norm in our community, we can ease the pressure and remind families: you’re not alone.
Learning Together: Everyone deserves access to clear, accurate information about the effects of smartphones and social media on our children. We’re committed to learning together — through expert talks, book clubs, and community conversations — so families feel informed and supported in making thoughtful decisions.
Judgement-Free Dialogue: We all benefit from honest conversations. Whether you're just beginning to think about screen time or you've already been through it with older kids, we believe in learning from one another. We're creating space for open, judgment-free dialogue among parents, caregivers, and community members.
Community-Driven Advocacy: Smart policy supports smart choices. We’ll work together to advocate for school policies that reflect our shared goal: balanced, intentional tech use that supports students’ growth, rather than undermining it. We’ll also collaborate with existing efforts to make change where it matters most.
