Take the Pledge
Join our community of families committed to delaying smartphones until high school and social media until age 16.
Let kids be kids a little longer.
Smartphones are distracting and potentially dangerous for children, yet they are widespread in elementary and middle school because of social pressure to have one. These devices are quickly changing childhood — time spent playing outdoors, reading books, and hanging out with friends and family is being replaced by hours on social media and YouTube.
The Delco Unplugged pledge empowers families to rally together to delay smartphones and social media. It's easier when you're not doing it alone.
When the time is right to introduce a communication tool, try a basic talk-and-text phone or kid-safe watch. Check out our Alternative Devices page for some ideas!
This pledge is not a contract — it's purely a statement of intent and a signal to your kids and community.

You're still welcome here!
This is a zero-judgement zone. Many of us are navigating this in real time. Maybe you have older kids, or are still deciding! All are welcome, no matter where you're starting from.
This is a community for anyone who wants to better understand how smartphones and social media are changing childhood and how to raise kids who are independent, confident, focused, and resilient. Many of us are also reflecting on our own tech use and looking for ways to reclaim attention, connection, and well-being in our own lives.
Also, it's never too late to make a change. We are allowed to change our minds when presented with new information.
Join us in person to meet other local families and hear from experts.
